Gambling self-exclusion in Canada
How Ontario's BetGuard, operator exclusions, banking controls and practical barriers work together.
Ontario's central option
iGaming Ontario says all regulated operators participate in BetGuard, which allows a person to opt out of regulated online gambling in Ontario. Individual operators must also maintain their own self-exclusion program.
Why province and operator still matter
Canadian gambling systems are provincial. A program covering regulated Ontario sites does not automatically block offshore websites, land-based venues or products in another province. Check the official program scope rather than assuming one form covers everything.
Build a four-layer barrier

Before enrolling
- Download transaction and account records you may need.
- Note pending withdrawals and formal complaint references.
- Read the period, products and reinstatement rules.
- Remove marketing permissions where possible.
- Plan where gambling time and attention will go instead.
If an excluded account remains accessible
Do not continue gambling to “test” the block. Take screenshots, record the time and domain, contact the program or operator, and preserve any deposits made after the exclusion should have applied.
Self-exclusion and chasing losses
The strongest urge to reverse a block often follows a loss. Past random outcomes do not create a debt that the next session is likely to repay. The useful move is to protect remaining money and talk to someone before the urgency becomes another deposit.

Can I self-exclude from every gambling site in Canada at once?
There is no single Canada-wide system covering every provincial and offshore service. Ontario's BetGuard covers regulated online gambling in Ontario.
Does self-exclusion cancel debts or withdrawals?
